Position Details: 


The Assistant Superintendent of Business and Operations is a cabinet-level position directly responsible to the Superintendent for the overall financial operations of the district, including development and maintenance of annual budget and long range financial planning. The Assistant Superintendent has a central role in school district planning and analysis of current programs, support systems and expenditures and supervises the operations of the business, new construction and renovations, custodial, maintenance, facilities, transportation and food service functions.


Required Education/Certification

  • Required Bachelor in Business Administration (Accounting/Finance).Preferred Master’s Degree or Certified Public Accountant.
  • Seven to ten years of successful administrative and leadership experience in a public school district in the area of school business, with knowledge and understanding of school finance and laws.
  • Eligible for state administrator certification as a Chief School Business official.

  • Ability to draft presentations and effectively present information to administrators, public groups/community and the Board of Education.
  • Possess a high degree of honesty, integrity and character.


  • Responsible for budget development, administration and long range financial and facilities planning for the District.
  • Assist the Superintendent and staff to analyze financial and educational issues and opportunities and develop strategies to improve daily operations.
  • Prepare and oversee the preparation of District financial reports, ensuring that report formats meet all reporting requirements.
  • Interpret and communicate financial issues of the District to the staff and community.
  • Implement and maintain effective internal controls safeguarding District assets and resources.
  • Develop and oversee the capital improvement plan for all school facilities, building construction projects and all other bond projects.
  • Participate on the Board bargaining team for all bargaining units.
  • Lead the district’s safety and security program.
  • Prepare all bidding documents, tabulations and reports.
  • Supervise the business, transportation, food service, and maintenance departments; supervise the District’s energy conservation plan; manage the custodial service contract.
  • Manage the District real estate and risk management insurance programs.
  • Serve as administrative liaison to the Board Finance Committee.
  • Serve as administrative liaison to the Board Capital Projects Committee.
  • Attend school board meetings and prepare reports to the Board of Education.
  • Participate in county and State organizations to stay abreast of school finance reform and other District-related issues.
