Position Details: 

Reports to Director for Learning Services and Building Principal.

Position is included in the BHEA Contract.

The role of the English Language Arts Teacher Leader is to provide guidance in the alignment and coordination of ELA curriculum.  In addition, the English Language Arts Teacher Leader will ensure that resources are available for teacher and student use and provide necessary professional development for the implementation of resources. 

Specifically, the ELA Teacher Leader will:

  • Collaborate with faculty members and faculty committees in the development, writing and implementation of district curriculum
  • Lead the process to evaluate, purchase, and incorporate new texts, resources, and/or technology into classroom instruction
  • Coordinate processes to ensure curriculum is aligned to state-adopted content standards
  • Provide communication about content area resources for teachers, administrators, students, parents, and community members
  • Collaborate with District Assessment Coordinator to analyze assessment data to inform instructional decisions
  • Develop short and long term goals for the content area with an emphasis on K-12 alignment and articulation.
  • Develop and maintain an up-to-date research library to support ELA instruction
  • Organize and conduct professional development
  • Coordinate end of course and common district assessments
  • Investigate grant opportunities in alignment with content area vision
  • Serve on county-wide content area team representing BHS
  • Other duties as assigned

This position is being coupled with a 0.5 English teacher position at Bloomfield Hills High School.  This full-time position will be shared between Bloomfield Hills High School and the Learning Service Team. 

Qualifications:

  • Possess a valid Michigan teacher certification
  • Preferred certifications include Reading Specialist endorsement (BR or BT)
  • Minimum 5 years teaching experience
  • Preferred experience teaching various grade levels K-12 and abilities
  • Preferred previous teacher leadership experience
  • Demonstrated success in leading adult learners
  • Extensive knowledge of content area curriculum standards
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated success in using data to inform instructional decisions
  • Demonstrated success in creating and using common assessments
