Location: Mixture of Lansing Office requirements with remote working options and travel for delivery of professional development and training sessions.
Starting Pay:  $60,000 per year (negotiable based on education & experience)

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Professional-Learning Coach’s role is to work directly with Michigan Virtual’s Professional Learning Services team, specifically supporting K-12 blended and online learning initiatives.  In this role, the coach will act as a change agent by promoting, developing, and helping to implement blended learning strategies in districts, schools, and with teachers.  The coach supports student achievement by providing direct support to administrators, department chairs and teachers.  The Professional-Learning Coach will provide outreach, professional development and conference presentations for K-12 teachers and administrators in Michigan.  The coach will provide group and one-to-one coaching to educators as they work to transform educational experiences by effective integration of technology within school improvement and intervention strategies, which will involve scheduled travel to school districts throughout the state as well as online coaching.
 
Michigan Virtual is seeking a passionate educator to join its Professional Learning Services team, working to support schools and teachers throughout the state of Michigan as they work to use technology effectively for increased student growth and success. This position will be responsible for supporting both teachers and school leaders. The Professional Learning Services team is an energizing and fun group that is passionate about collaborating with multiple school districts and educational organizations as well as the Michigan Department of Education on the development of effective professional development programs. The coach can expect colleagues that care deeply about supporting student and teacher growth.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provides instructional coaching and consultation with K-12 administrators and teachers in the area of blended and online learning.
  2. Designs and leads professional development experiences for teachers during school and district experiences as well as professional conferences.
  3. Coordinates outreach and community building which could include writing blog posts and building authentic relationships through social media.
  4. Supports teachers with grade level specific learning design strategies.
  5. Collaborates with the Professional Learning Services and Instructional Product Development team on development of new components of professional development programs and services.
  6. Guides and assists Michigan Virtual team members and external consultants in the content development process (analysis, design, production, implementation and evaluation) in a manner that promotes the use of sound instructional design principles.
  7. Produces coarse elements using multimedia and instructional technology tools.
  8. Consults and collaborates with subject matter experts to identify and obtain instructional and learning objectives and content.
  9. Serves as a resource in identifying appropriate instructional strategies and interventions to improve student achievement.
  10. Supports instructional leaders throughout Michigan as they increase student learning and achievement by improving the quality of daily classroom instruction and implementing blended instruction.
  11. Conducts site support visits in conjunction with members of the team, observing instruction in order to assess program implementation and future professional development needs.

 
 REQUIRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, & LICENSURES (minimum requirements):

  • Master’s degree in Education, Educational Technology or another educational field.
  • Michigan Teacher Certification required.

 
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (minimum requirements):

  • 5 or more years of teaching experience.
  • 5 or more years of school, district, and/or ISD/RESA teacher training/coaching experience.
  • 5 or more years of experience in designing and providing professional development opportunities for K-12 educators.
  • Experience teaching in a blended learning format.
  • Experience providing professional development in the area of blended learning
  • Experience with a major CMS or LMS (i.e. Bright Space (Desire2Learn), Moodle, Blackboard, Google Classroom).
  • Experience with Web 2.0 applications including social networking, blogs, wikis, etc.

 
DESIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in school leadership role focused on school improvement is desirable (i.e. School Improvement Team experience)
  • Experience with developing online and/or blended K-12 courses is highly desirable.
  • Experience with and understanding of the important in-person relationships needed for student success in an online learning environment
  • Experience as an instructional designer is highly desirable.
  • Experience with multimedia, graphic creation and content development applications such as Articulate, Adobe CS2-6 Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Dreamweaver), Lectora, Camtasia, Audacity, Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and SoftChalk.

 
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES (minimum requirements):

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in using technology methods to meet student needs and personalize learning.
  •  Knowledge of assessment methodology and experience with online assessment.
  • Ability to manage a complex workload and aggressive schedules, to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated writing skill in producing design specifications, course content, and project proposals.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in applying instructional design principles.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work well with a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across cultural boundaries and work harmoniously with diverse groups of stakeholders, students, teachers, and administrators.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, lead and guide professional development.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of Michigan Department of Education and Other Frameworks governing work scope such as: Common Core Standards, Content Standards, Curriculum, Response to Intervention/Multi-Tiered Systems of Support, and Universal Design for Learning

 
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Instructional coaching experience, preferably with both teachers and school leaders.
  • Nurture relationships with school leaders and teacher-leaders at school sites to share information about blended learning.
  • Knowledge of the school improvement context, and of current, effective innovations in education.
  • Ability to develop a common language and common vision around the idea of high-quality blended implementation and instruction.
  • Skilled at identifying the systems-level policies, practices, and structures that must change in order for blended instruction to improve student achievement.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate others to meet ambitious goals.

  • The work environment is that of a typical office and/or classroom setting.
