POSITION:   DK-2 MTSS Coordinator/Behavior Coach

 

REPORTS TO: Oakwood Principal

 

SUPERVISES: No Supervisory Duties

 

LOCATION: Oakwood Elementary School

 

FUNDING: Grant Funds (31a At-Risk)

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 195 day/year, non-tenure, one year contract.  Benefits as per employment agreement.  Salary range - $40,000 - $45,000.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION: Under the direction of the principal, the MTSS Coordinator/Behavior Coach will facilitate behavior support through problem solving and MTSS.  As the behavior coach this person will work directly with staff to encourage collaboration, idea sharing, and to ensure best practices are followed when dealing with student behavioral concerns.  This position supports the goal of improving student outcomes through encouraging system wide initiatives to increase student success through behavioral knowledge and positive behavior supports.  This position will work directly with all stakeholders to ensure that supports are in place and procedures are followed.  This position will support the integration of MTSS behavior/positive school climate components with a school’s existing systems.   

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Counseling or related field
  2. Thorough understanding of School Wide Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS) and how it relates to the classroom setting
  3. Knowledge and skills in classroom organization and management
  4. Experience working with At-Risk students
  5. Training in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention
  6. Current knowledge of research based strategies and interventions
  7. Ability to provide a supportive role to the principal

 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Collaborate and work closely with the building staff in the following areas:
    • Implement district and school PBIS behavior policies
    • Provide pro-active behavior support for students DK -2
    • Provide training for support staff/teachers in the areas of behavior support
    • Attend IEP meetings as needed
    • Collaborate with assessment teams
    • Collaborate with district and building SWIS coordinator
  2. PBIS supporting responsibilities:
    • Participate in the determination, development, implementation, and evaluation of behavioral management for eligible students for the purpose of improving student outcomes.
    • Incorporate PBIS principles and procedures with students
    • Analyze progress and data, and provide feedback to the team regarding individual students and their interventions to support data-driven decision-making
    • Observe student behavior and problem-solve with teachers
    • Support and implement general education behavior support plans; work with students on fix-it plans; facilitate daily check-in and check-out with identified high-risk students; contact and communicate with parents about behavior and progress monitoring
    • Support behavioral data on students (SWIS)
  3. Remain current with research based strategies and interventions and train staff to apply effective behavior management techniques.
  4. Implement coaching strategies with teachers toward improving student behavior and classroom management.
  5. Communicate effectively with parents and staff.
  6. Collaborate with classroom teachers, paraprofessionals, parents and administration.
  7. Remain courteous, professional, and tactful at all times in working with students, staff, and parents.
  8. Any other duties as assigned by the principal.
