Harbor Springs Public Schools

The Harbor Springs Public Schools (HSPS) Board of Education is seeking candidates to apply for the position of Superintendent, replacing Dr. Mark Tompkins who retired at the end of November.  This is an exceptional opportunity for a highly motivated, experienced educator in a district renowned for achievement in academics, athletics and the arts.

Harbor Springs is located on Little Traverse Bay, just north of Petoskey.  This district of just over 800 students offers programs and opportunities rarely found in a district this size, blending classroom and online learning with the incredible extended opportunities that the natural resources and area attractions offer.

HSPS prides itself on the bonds that have forged over time with the business community and residents.  Residents have supported ballot proposals and businesses maintain a strong, supportive relationship with the school.  Parents are deeply involved, holding extremely high expectations of their children and the school as well, but readily volunteer and provide assistance where needed.

Financially, HSPS as an out of formula district, maintaining a solid fund balance rooted in a high tax base.  The district is able to attract top-quality staff, who enjoy a great relationship with administration and Board of Education.  Proactive problem-solving has created an environment of win-win collective bargaining.
