LAINGSBURG COMMUNITY SCHOOLS

Laingsburg Community Schools is seeking an educational leader who can work as part of a close-knit administrative team, would be a supportive leader to an excellent teaching staff, has strong student relationship skills, and one who can help coordinate curriculum and school improvement efforts.    

DISTRICT PROFILE: Laingsburg is located 15 miles northeast of Lansing, MI in a suburban/rural school district with a good quality of life.  Laingsburg has a strong technology emphasis, good physical facilities, and a very supportive community in which to work. The elementary principal oversees grades K - 5, with our kindergarten students located in our Early Childhood Education Center and grades 1 - 5 located in our elementary building.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Valid Michigan Teacher’s Certificate and Administrator’s Certificate.
  2. Master’s degree in educational leadership, curriculum or related area.
  3. Five (5) years successful teaching experience preferred. Elementary school experience desirable.
  4. Three (3) years of successful administrative experience.
  5. Background in the successful implementation of a 1:1 technology initiative and/or documented evidence how technology can “redefine” the classroom experience for students.
  6. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
  7. Must pass a background check and possess all legally required certifications.

SUPERVISES: All elementary school staff  (26 teachers plus support staff)

JOB GOAL:  To use your leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills to accomplish the goals of Laingsburg Community Schools.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Supervises all school operations and its instructional program for grades K – 5 (500 students).
  2. Provides leadership necessary to ensure that a developmentally appropriate instructional program is provided to all students.
  3. Plans, organizes, and directs implementation of all school sponsored activities.
  4. Establishes and maintains favorable relationships with local community groups and individuals to foster understanding and solicit support for overall school objectives and programs, to interpret Board policies and administrative procedures; and to discuss and resolve individual student problems.
  5. Supervises and evaluates all certified/licensed and support staff assigned to the school.
  6. Assists in the recruiting, screening, hiring, assigning and evaluating of the school’s staff, both professional and classified.
  7. Maintains an effective learning environment in the school.
  8. Assumes responsibility for student achievement and school improvement.
  9. Contributes to and implements the District School Improvement Plan.
  10. Consistently administers the Student Code of Conduct.
  11. Prepares reports, records, lists, budgets and all other paperwork required.
  12. Participates in principal meetings and such other meetings as required or appropriate for successful administration of the school.
  13. Prepares and submits the school’s budget and monitors expenditures to ensure that the budget is balanced.
  14. Keeps the superintendent informed of the school’s activities and problems.
  15. Abides by all applicable rules, regulations, policies, and statutes for the position.
  16. Performs other administrative duties as required by the superintendent.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  1. Multi-year contract with a July 1, 2018 start date
  2. Salary Range: $85,000 - $88,000

TENTATIVE TIMELINE:

  1. Posting Deadline: April 9, 2018
  2. First Round of Interviews: Week of April 23
  3. Second Round of Interviews if Needed: Week of April 30
  4. Recommendation to the Board of Education for hire: May 16
  5. Start Date: July 1 - but negotiable
