Position Details: 

The Pathfinder School is seeking a GENERAL MUSIC TEACHER (Fall 2018) who can work collaboratively in our independent, prek-8th grade environment while adhering to the high expectations of the program. Candidates must be creative lesson designers, performance focused, responsive to the needs of individual learners, and maintain a caring atmosphere by building positive relationships with students and families.

  • Respect for young children and a passion for their social, emotional, and intellectual development.
  • Prior classroom experience in general music instruction of early childhood, elementary and middle school children (designing curriculum, planning lessons, organizing performances, preparing materials, differentiating instruction, assessment)
  • Demonstrated instructional agility to develop children’s interests and skills in music (history, theory, production, and performance).
  • Ability to engage students with a range of instruments, voice, and movement.
  • Ability to connect students and families to community resources to expand the musical experience of students.
  • Demonstrated experience integrating music instruction for the purposes of developing social skills, critical thinking, creativity, collaboration.
  • Commitment to emergent curriculum, experiential methods, and integration of the outdoors.
  • Ability and willingness to direct an ensemble strings program, preferred.
  • Understanding of Multiple Intelligence Theory.
  • Commitment to the conflict resolution process as an instructional tool for children.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with teams to develop curriculum, deliver instruction, and advance overall school programming.
  • Can embrace the distinction of independent schooling and operationalize the mission of The Pathfinder School.
  • Excellence in communication (verbal and written; formal and informal).
  • Respect for parenting and inherent partnership of school and home.
  • Experience in communicating with parents.  Expertise in child development that can be effectively applied in parent communication.
  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Education, Music, or related field.
  • Familiarity with Orff instrumentation and willingness to integrate into instruction.
  • Ability to conduct an orchestral ensemble is desirable.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Successful clearance of FBI background checks, and iCHAT (State Police).
