Reports To:                                  Facilities Manager, Administration

Position Summary:  Effectively perform building and grounds maintenance activities for the Oakland Schools Main Campus and/or other buildings as assigned. Able to respond to Oakland Schools emergencies after hours and/or weekends. 


Essential Functions and Tasks:

  • Chemically analyze and treat building boilers.
  • Inspect, maintain and repair plumbing and plumbing fixtures such as replacing faucet stems, opening clogged drains and replacing defective pipes.
  • Inspect, maintain and repair complex mechanical components such as HVAC systems, domestic hot water heating systems, emergency generator and refrigeration units.
  • Operate and maintain above systems including filter changes, lubrication, belt changes, etc.
  • Operate the Metasys BAS to maintain building comfort levels and respond to maintenance requests as needed.
  • Assist Facilities Manager in the inspection of the facilities to determine repairs necessary to building and equipment.
  • Assist with planning, scheduling, and monitoring of maintenance, and grounds work.
  • Recommend major repairs to building and grounds as needed.
  • Maintain material, tools, and equipment needed for building and grounds maintenance.
  • Assist with inspection of contracted maintenance work.
  • Ensure that safety procedures necessary for the successful completion of projects are followed.
  • Assist with implementing and monitoring a program of preventive maintenance.
  • Conduct periodic inspections of all facilities to ensure proper fire and safety procedures.
  • Recommend orders for maintenance and related supplies and equipment.
  • Help ensure compliance with EPA and OSHA regulations, including record keeping in accordance with procedures.
  • Assist with meeting room setups and cubicle assembly and relocation.
  • Assist with grounds maintenance such as snow removal, salting, weed removal, etc. as required.
  • Assist with emergency custodial tasks (i.e. spills, restroom accidents, etc.) as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 5 or more years of experience and/or training directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • HVAC training and certification.
  • EPA certification in air conditioning and refrigeration.
  • Powered Access License preferred.
  • Knowledge of the operation of pressure boilers and equipment and the tools, methods, and practices used in maintaining boilers and auxiliary equipment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in plumbing and electrical repairs.
  • Demonstrated experience in carpentry and painting repairs.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as blue prints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to travel to various Oakland School buildings for site inspections and equipment monitoring.
  • Work involves some exposure to adverse weather, environmental hazards, noise and the like.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs.

Employment Terms:

Twelve month work year. Salary based on the Progression Increment Salary System, Market Range 4 with an hourly range of $22.416 to $25.632.
