The Director of Instructional Technology at Kenowa Hills Public Schools serves as an administrator over all technology services and applications. This person is responsible for creating a technological environment that is primarily concerned with integrating technology into instruction and assessment. This includes the development, implementation, operation, monitoring, and evaluation of the technology program for the entire school district. The Director of Instructional Technology will create a collaborative environment focused on customer service and student, staff, and parent support.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Is an active member on the District School Improvement Team, facilitates the District Technology Team planning process and District Technology Plan, and is involved in all strategic planning activities.
  • Leads the district in integrating technology as a tool for learning by collaborating, visioning and supporting the work of students and staff.
  • Supervises the staff members within the technology department as well as contracted service providers.
  • Implements, maintains and instructs users on the Student Information System, Learning Management System, School Finance software system, virtual storage and all other district-required software applications. • Maintains a reliable network (servers and data storage) and infrastructure (fiber, routers, switches).
  • Insures compliance with all state and federal regulations related to technology.
  • Markets the district through creating and maintaining appropriate websites, a district smartphone application, email, phone system and other communication sources.
  • Provides leadership in identifying hardware and software purchases, insuring they align with the district technology plan.
  • Follows standards for the purchase of equipment, software, related media, and supplies for instructional technology integration and management activities, including competitive bidding.
  • Supervises the district inventory of technology assets (hardware and software).

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

The Director of Instructional Technology must have an advanced degree (Master’s or higher) and should have experience in an educational field. Advanced technology training is also an important consideration for this role. The Director of Instructional Technology requires a high level of relational capacity in order to work effectively with students, staff, and parents. Preferred candidates will have experience in educational technology and a commitment to the interactive uses of technology in the public school setting.

Knowledge and Expertise in:

  • High level of understanding about personalized learning and competency-based education systems
  • Technology services and their applications in PreK-12 education
  • Leading a group of professionals toward a common vision for technology
  • Collaborative development, implementation, and evaluation of school and district technology plans
  • Facilitating change for student and staff continuous improvement
  • State and federal regulations related to technology
  • Infrastructure, hardware, software, virtual storage and other technology platforms

Ability to:

  • Develop short and long-term budgets for technology equipment, infrastructure, staffing, and professional development offerings
  • Create a comprehensive strategic plan for the technology department
  • Effectively lead, troubleshoot, train and work with the technology department staff members
  • Understand the District’s infrastructure and how the network functions
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholder groups
  • Build consensus and establish strong working relationships, both horizontal and vertical, with a wide range of people
  • Assist users and trainers with software and hardware direction, guidance, and visioning
  • Leverage the District’s Learning Management System (LMS) to support formative and summative assessments
  • Train staff in the use of hardware and software to meet the National Educational Technology Standards for Students, Teachers and Administrators
  • Maintain a high level of accountability in all technology-related projects
