Position Details: 

The Chatfield School is currently hiring a part time special education resource room teacher.  The special education resource room teacher will plan and implement direct and support instruction, assessment, and programming to meet the needs of students and maximize each student’s learning potential and progress toward educational goals. 

  • Plan, organize, and provide instruction to students individually, in small groups, and in both the resource room environment and the general education classroom.
  • Evaluate student progress and prepare reports that detail progress.
  • Maintain appropriate records.
  • Recommend changes in students’ school and classroom environment, consistent with their needs and capabilities to provide greater access to general education curriculum.
  • Adapt general education and special education curriculum, support materials, and instructional strategies applied in general education setting.
  • Attend Multi-Disciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) and Individualized Education Planning Team (IEPT) meetings as requested.
  • Function as a part of IEPT’s designating appropriate education programs for students with disabilities. 
  • Maintain a caseload of special education students as assigned. 


Qualifications include:

  • Valid Michigan teaching certification: Special Education Endorsement, (K-5 all subjects, K-8 self-contained classroom)
  • Ability and desire to work collaboratively in innovative, team teaching setting. 
  • Ability to relate positively with students, colleagues, and parents. 
  • High level of interpersonal skills to communicate verbally and in writing.
