Accounting Specialist/Buchanan Virtual Academy Coordinator

Buchanan Community Schools is welcoming applicants for a support staff position in our Business Office and in our virtual education program: Buchanan Virtual Academy (BVA).  The district seeks qualified applicants to support accounting processes for accounts payable/receivable, monitoring fiscal transactions, and reconciling financial records. The position will also provide part-time support to our BVA program by managing office communications, facilitating student enrollments, maintaining student records, and assisting the administrator responsible for the educational program.  

The desired candidate must possess the following attributes:

  • Able to effectively take direction, as well as, work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Experience with computerized accounting and pupil software (Skyward and PowerSchool).
  • Skill in the operation of standard office machinery including personal computer, ten key adding machine, typewriter, FAX machines, copy machines, printers, scanners, etc.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
  • Proficient in word processing, including basic desktop publishing, databases and spreadsheet applications, Google drive, scanning
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; analysis, interpersonal, and organizational strengths
  • Ability to handle complex and stressful issues or situations with sound judgment, common sense, and a calm demeanor
  • Impeccable character, a good sense of humor, and compassion for virtual school students, families, and district staff
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Executive Director of Business and Operations may find appropriate and acceptable

Eligible candidates must meet the following qualifications:

  • Degree in accounting or business related area
  • Experience in accounts payable/bookkeeping and pupil accounting/registration.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in business/school office.
  • Knowledge and/or skill in fund accounting.

Position Details:

  • Title: Accounting Specialist/Buchanan Virtual Academy Coordinator
  • Reports to: Executive Director of Business and Operations
  • Starting date: early August, 2018
  • Calendar: Full time, 52-weeks per fiscal year
  • Compensation: Salary commensurate with the credentials and experience of the candidate (anticipated compensation range of $15 to $20 per hour), full benefit package offered
