Birmingham is a district of over 8,000 students with eight elementary schools, two middle schools, two high schools, a district-wide grade 3-8 school of choice, an alternative high school and expansive early childhood and adult education programming. In mid-October, the Board will be approving a Leadership Profile that specifies the desired professional and personal qualifications and characteristics they are seeking in a new Superintendent. Birmingham Public Schools encourages experienced traditional and non-traditional candidates to apply on-line through the Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates website: The application deadline is November 16, 2018.

Dr James Morse and Alena Zachery-Ross will begin reviewing applications in September. Applications will be confidential until a slate is presented to the Board on November 20, 2018. The Board anticipates naming a Superintendent by December, 2018 with a starting date of January 1, 2019. Salary and benefits are attractive and will be  regionally competitive.
