Intervention Facilitator (6th & 7th ELA) – Buchanan Middle School


Buchanan Community Schools is welcoming applicants for an Intervention Specialist (6th and 7th Grade ELA) at Buchanan Middle School.  

Job summary:

The qualified applicant will provide strategic and intensive ELA intervention to individual/groups of students in grades 6th & 7th as part of the Buchanan Middle School MTSS/RTI program for Tiers 2 and 3.  Additionally, provide support at the Tier 2 and 3 levels in reading.  This position is not part of the teacher contract and is paid out of grant funds (See Compensation below for non-certified vs. certified teacher).


  • Elementary Education Certification or Secondary Education Certification in ELA   
  • Experience working with middle school adolescents
  • Technologically literate using an IBM/MAC computers and/or Chromebook
  • Experience with NWEA, Delta Math, Read Naturally and/or Study Island Programs

The desired candidate must possess the following attributes:

  • Able to effectively take direction, as well as, work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
  • Ability to handle complex and stressful issues or situations with sound judgment, common sense, and a calm demeanor
  • Impeccable character, sense of humor, and compassion for students, families, and district staff

Eligible candidates must meet the following qualifications:

  • Good communication skills and ability to work with At-Risk students
  • Flexible, caring, creative individual
  • Punctual and rarely absent work habits

Position Details:

  • Title: Intervention Facilitator – Buchanan Middle School
  • Reports to: Buchanan Middle School Principal, Mr. Mark Kurland
  • Starting date: September 4th, 2018
  • Calendar: Up to 185 Days
  • Compensation:  $16.00/hr. (non-certified teacher) - $20/hr. (certified teacher), 4 sick days/1 personal day, and single insurance coverage paid by the district
    • Extra compensation may be available for the After School Student Success Program and/or covering detentions
