JOB TITLE:                Recreation Program Coordinator
STATUS:                   Full time, 52 weeks per year
SALARY:                  $39,000 - $41,000
REPORTS TO:          Aquatic Center Supervisor (with support from Athletic Director)
 
GENERAL SUMMARY: Under the joint general supervision of the Aquatic Center Supervisor and Athletic Director, this position is responsible for assisting in the organization of a diversified offering of youth recreation programs and special events offered through the CPS Recreation Program.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provide overall coordination and leadership of all CPS recreation programs ensuring that they are of the highest quality and safety.
  2. Form positive bonds with community members and staff, as well as collaborate in an effort to facilitate CPS recreation programming.
  3. Seek, receive and respond to feedback from patrons and staff.
  4. Coordinate the recreational use of all District facilities with the facility scheduler.
  5. Maintain all recreation equipment and order new supplies as necessary.
  6. Responsible for training and supervising all recreation staff and volunteers in conjunction with the Aquatic Center Supervisor and Athletic Director.
  7. Give input to the Athletic Director on involvement and participation of varsity head coaches and team members.
  8. Coordinate summer recreational camp opportunities and clinics for youth.
  9. Develop and oversee a comprehensive system for community recreation sponsors.
  10. Responsible for the overall scheduling and coordination of recreation staff and volunteers; including but not limited to, officials, recreation coaches, and game management staff.
  11. Appropriately staffs recreation programs for all events and programs while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
  12. Assures the certifications of all employees & volunteers is current and adequate, if required.
  13. Design, develop, evaluate and promote all recreation programs in conjunction with the Aquatic Center Supervisor and Athletic Director.
  14. Implement an aggressive marketing plan for the recreation programs.
  15. Track user data and trends.
  16. Adhere to and recommend revisions to the CPS Recreation Business Plan.
  17. Participate in meetings with the Business Office to maintain the fiscal responsibility of the recreation programs.
  18. Assist in the annual budget process with the Aquatic Center Supervisor.
  19. Adhere to all District policies and procedures.
  20. Perform allied duties or related duties as assigned. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
An individual shall possess, upon application, the following minimal experience or its satisfactory equivalent:

  1. Bachelor’s degree required in recreation, physical education, kinesiology, health, or a related field.
  2. Experience in creating, organizing, conducting and administering recreation programs.
  3. Current special certifications: CPR, First Aid, AED or willing to obtain.
  4. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain rapport with students, staff, parents, volunteers and community agencies.
  5. Must be a highly motivated, action oriented individual who can take charge and get things done and modify when things aren’t going as planned.
  6. Be a professional at all times and present a positive, optimistic attitude as an ambassador for the District.
  7. Able to oversee and monitor physical activities that may be strenuous, both indoors and out, in all weather conditions, and will include evening and weekend hours.
  8. Must be able to lift, carry, and manage equipment and supplies.
  9. Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The preferred candidate will likely possess, upon application, the following experience or its satisfactory equivalent:

  1. Master’s degree in recreation or related field.
  2. Experience coordinating a comprehensive health and wellness program for youth and adults
  3. Previous experience with Microsoft Office software, basic website design, social media tools, marketing, promotions and communication.
  4. Commitment to the personal growth of students
  5. Commitment to a focus on customer service
  6. Excellent public image, good written and oral skills, including presentation experience.
