SALARY: Per MCEA Agreement

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Be considered as a Highly Qualified Teacher under MDE requirements, which include possessing a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, a valid Michigan teacher certificate with EX (mathematics) 6-8 or 6-12 endorsement, and demonstrable knowledge of middle school math content and related pedagogy.  

2. Experience teaching students from high-poverty backgrounds strongly preferred. 

3. Knowledge of Common Core State Standards and experience delivering Common Core-aligned instruction strongly preferred.  

4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

5. Strong interpersonal skills.

6. Evidence of excellence when working with middle school students.

7. Desire to be held accountable for student academic growth and academic results.

8. Technological proficiency with a basic understanding of data analysis.

9. Advanced Placement certification desirable.  

 

The Mount Clemens Community School District is currently in the process of installing the Blueprint for systemic reconfiguration that purposefully disrupts current practice to create a new structure of coherent, aligned district and building systems to ensure success for all students. A successful Blueprint teacher demonstrates the following:

• the skill and willingness to leverage the student support network to ensure that students’ social, emotional, nutritional and health needs are addressed;

• the ability and desire to design and utilize formative assessments to modify and adjust instruction on a daily basis;

• the skill to implement a tiered system of instruction within the classroom to meet the needs of all students;

• the ability to help create and thrive in a professional environment that is one of mutual respect, teamwork, and accountability;

• the ability to seek out knowledgeable peers, coaches or administrators for instructional support in the never ending quest to deliver the vision of high quality subject-specific instruction in every class period every day;

 

A Blueprint teacher has the confidence to lead and possesses the following competencies to:

• prioritize student-learning needs over the customs, routines, and established relationships that can stand in the way of necessary change;

• achieve results by taking risks and reflecting and acting on lessons learned;

• maintain his/her drive for results by demonstrating persistence, directness, and the ability to monitor and plan ahead;

• commit to the relentless pursuit of increasing student learning;

• skillfully challenge the status quo.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

1. Consistently plan and engage students in active, student-centered learning activities aligned to Common Core State Standards.  

2. Develops lesson plans, instructional materials, and appropriate tasks, and provides differentiated and small-group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the individual needs of all students.  

3. Use qualitative and quantitative data to inform decision-making and instructional strategies.

4. Prepare students to succeed in NWEA, M-STEP, and PSAT 8/9 math assessments.  

5. Share best practices and support differentiated instructional opportunities and strategies.

6. Maintain required student records (e.g., attendance and grades).  

7. Communicate, on a regular basis, with the parents and caregivers of students regarding achievement, attendance, and classroom behavior. 

8. Work with parents and caregivers in partnership to reinforce positive student behavior (e.g., calling parents with positive as well as negative news, sending home correspondence, conferencing with parents).

9. Maintain a clean, orderly, and respectful classroom environment that reflects our focus on student achievement, high academic and behavioral expectations, and positive staff-student relationships.     

10. Implement required instructional strategies from Multi-Tiered System of Supports, School Improvement Plan, and Common Instructional Framework.  

11. Provide structure in the classroom by reinforcing school-wide Code of Conduct and behavioral expectations.  Adhere to the established administrative referral process.

12. Attend all required professional development workshops and staff meetings.  

13. Fulfill all contractual obligations as a teacher in the bargaining unit.  We respect our end of the contractual obligations and expect you to do so as well.

14. Participate as an active, effective member of a professional learning community.  

15. Perform a variety of other non-instructional duties, including curriculum, instructional, and assessment development activities; student supervision; and consultation activities as required by school and/or district administration.
