JOB TITLE:            Supervisor/Pupil Accounting (40-1160-005 Strand E)

DEPARTMENT: Business Office

REPORTS TO:      Director, Finance

SUMMARY:  Maintain communications with Department of Education and Local Education Agencies to assist in Student Accounting.  Audit student FTE submitted to Department of Education by LEA’s. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Act as liaison between examiners and the Department of State, providing legal updates, interpretation, training and paperwork submissions monthly. 
  • Prepare all Bay-Arenac ISD Pupil Accounting forms and electronic submissions as required by Michigan Department of Education.
  • Conduct on-site student audits of local school districts and check figures as required by Michigan Department of Education Pupil Accounting and Auditing Laws.
  • Report non-public and home school students and school information to Michigan Department of Education as required or requested.
  • Coordinate and monitor Center for Educational Performance Information data collection program with ISD and local district personnel.
  • Conduct student accounting training meetings for LEA/BAISD personnel as needed but at least semi-annually prior to each student count.
  • Inform BAISD and LEA administrators of law changes related to areas of responsibility.
  • Attendance and punctuality.
  • Follow all board policies and guidelines.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management or related field and three (3) years qualifying experience.
  • One (1) year experience in Pupil Accounting; preferred.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, administrators and staff in an efficient, professional, courteous and cooperative manner.  Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, in writing and verbally and interact positively with schools and community.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to make accurate mathematical calculations. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to create/present information graphically.  Ability to maintain moderately complex and automated accounting records in an orderly and accurate manner.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to generate specialized computer reports and schedules with minimum direction. Ability to resolve conflict in a positive manner.  Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding student, parents and staff information.

 

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:  Knowledge of pupil accounting.  Strong analytical, interpersonal, and computer skills.  Ability to operate computer hardware and to work with software applications. Ability to work accurately and quickly under operational deadlines. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies in a conscientious, persistent, resourceful, productive and active manner.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Valid Driver’s License is required. 
  • Ability to acquire and maintain MPAAA Certification.
