Buchanan Community Schools is welcoming applicants for a Kindergarten Teacher at Ottawa Elementary School.  

Job summary:

Foster and facilitate the intellectual and social development of children ages 4-6 through intentional instructional planning, delivery, and assessment of academic lessons.

Essential qualifications, duties, and responsibilities:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate K-5
  • NCLB Highly Qualified
  • Continually engage in professional development in evidence-based literacy instructional strategies.
  • Create & maintain a classroom climate respectful of all learners.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills at both adult and student levels.
  • Extensive training in effective strategies for teaching reading, writing, and math.
  • Technologically literate using Chromebooks-spreadsheets, MS Word, Google Drive, Classroom Messenger, and ability to integrate technology into daily teaching.
  • Knowledge and prior use of State of Michigan curriculum core content standards and benchmarks.
  • Lessons show evidence of the use of integrated thematic units with differentiated instruction.
  • Ability to make & implement accommodations for special education, 504, ELL & at-risk students.
  • Ability to use data from formative and summative assessments to guide instructional planning and strategies used in the classroom so all children learn the required ELA and math CCSS’s, science STEM and social studies GLCE’s.
  • Communicate effectively through listening, observing and collaborating with staff.
  • Punctual and rarely absent work habits.

Preferred:

  • Master's Degree
  • Early Childhood endorsement
  • Kindergarten teaching experience and/or student teaching
  • Three or more years of classroom experience teaching language arts at the primary level
  • Leadership experience and working with educators in professional learning communities
  • Knowledge and ability to use GO MATH, MAISA writing units and K-PALS
  • Ability to administer and interpret DIBELS NEXT, MLPP and running records data (DRA) to target instructional efforts for all Tier 1, 2 and 3 students
  • Experience with PowerSchool
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with Daily 5 and CAFÉ
  • Knowledge of cooperative learning techniques and Marzano’s best instructional strategies and their use in the classroom

  • Calendar: 2018-19 school year, 185 teacher days
  • Compensation: According to union contract, full benefit package offered
