Summer School Teacher

Buchanan Community Schools is welcoming applicants for a Certified (ELA & Social Studies) 5-7 Summer School Teacher.

Job summary:

  • Dates of Employment: June 25th- July 25th, 2019 (132 hours)
  • Hours: 6:45- 12:45 (5 days/wk.) Days are set aside for set up, take down, and data completion within the 22 day contract.
  • Pay: Hourly wage $25/hr./$3300 wage


  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Must be ELA & Social Studies Certified in grades 5-7 with a Michigan Teaching license.
  • Preferred but not required: Highly Effective Rating on most recent teacher evaluation.
  • Familiar with the essential learning standards.
  • Create & maintain a classroom climate respectful of all learners.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills at both adult and student levels.
  • Technologically literate and ability to integrate technology into daily teaching.
  • Knowledge and prior use of State of Michigan curriculum core content standards and benchmarks.
  • Lessons show evidence of the use of integrated thematic units with differentiated instruction.
  • Ability to make & implement accommodations for special education, 504, ELL & at-risk students.
  • Ability to use data from formative and summative assessments to guide instructional planning and strategies used in the classroom.
  • Communicate effectively through listening, observing and collaborating with staff.
  • Punctual and rarely absent work habits.

Essential qualifications, duties, and responsibilities:

  • Provide ELA and Social Studies instruction.
  • Experience with Study Island Web-based programs.
  • Provide a safe and caring environment for the students.
  • Serve as a role model to students, especially in the areas of appropriate attitudes and respect. 
  • Maintain a record of attendance and pre and post data to be shared with the Summer School Coordinator.
  • Maintain communication with parents regarding attendance and behavior.
  • Perform to the best of ability all other duties as assigned.
