Elementary Technology Teacher

Fulltime 1.0 Teaching Position  (fte of position)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must possess a Bachelor’s in education or a related field. Must be eligible or possess Michigan teaching certificate with the appropriate endorsement to teach Technology Education.
  2. Demonstrated understanding of the application of the Michigan Integrated Technology Competencies for students (MITECS).
  3. Completed the 21 Things 4 Teachers modules.
  4. Demonstrated understanding of project based learning.

Essential Duties

  1. Teaches skills, knowledge, and scientific attitudes through courses in technology education to students, utilizing curriculum designated by New Haven Community Schools.
  2. Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the division’s basic instructional philosophy to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students.
  3. Plans a technology education program involving demonstrations, lectures, discussions, and student experiments; organizes activities for optimal learning.
  4. Instructs students in the proper use, care and safe handling of equipment.
  5. Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, and keeps appropriate formative and summative records of student growth to include in attendance reports, checklists, census forms, and other recordkeeping activities as necessary.
  6. Provides for safe storage and proper use of materials, equipment and tools.
  7. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior for a productive learning environment during class sessions and field trips.
  8. Evaluates each student’s growth in knowledge and skills in the course being taught.
  9. Communicates with parents and school stakeholders on student progress.
  10. Supervises students in assigned out of classroom activities during the working day.
  11. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
  12. Administers testing in accordance with your curricular academic team.
  13. Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
  14. Collaborates with staff to integrate technology in the classroom.

1. Maintains professional competence by attending staff development programs, curriculum development meetings and other professional activities.

2. Participates in various student and parent activities which occur in school including PTO, student clubs and after-school activities.

3. Creates an effective learning environment through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, school board presentation, and activity/learning centers.

4. Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrator.  

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

School year as defined in the written agreement between the New Haven Board of Education and the New Haven Education Association.  Start date is August 29, 2019

COMPENSATION:

Appropriate placement on the salary schedule as defined in the written agreement between the New Haven Board of Education and the New Haven Education Association

EVALUATION:

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the policy of the Board of Education and Administrative Guidelines.
