ELEMENTARY ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL 

Purpose Statement:  The Assistant Principal shall serve under the direct supervision of the Elementary Principal.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Assist in the supervision of student conduct outside the classroom to include attendance and student transfers
  • Assist in the cafeteria and playground student control
  • Assist in all non-classroom student activities to include school assemblies and student enrollment
  • Assist in coordination of all school-related student services
  • Receive and process discipline referrals
  • Evaluate and discipline staff as per delegation by Elementary Principal or the Superintendent
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualification Requirements:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be qualified to perform essential duties. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Current Michigan Administrator Certificate, required
  • Demonstrated ability to work with the entire school community, required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum and instruction at the elementary level, required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, required
  • Labor Relations experience, preferred
  • Elementary School Building Administrative experience, preferred
  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate, preferred

  • The ability to restrain students during physical altercations or disagreements
  • The ability to run or move quickly to situations requiring immediate attention
  • The ability to use hands, leverage, and strength to separate students who fight
  • The ability to sit and talk or listen
  • The ability to use a computer and related software with fingers and repetitive motions

Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise support and professional staff assigned to the building.
