Position Details: 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: School counselor /social worker responsibilities will include: utilizing leadership, advocacy, and collaboration to promote student success at the secondary level and beyond. Provide preventative services and respond to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses academic, career and personal/social development for all students.

MAJOR FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop and Maintain a Comprehensive School Counseling Program
  • Deliver a Comprehensive Program through the use of:
  • Developmentally appropriate and prevention-oriented group activities to meet student needs.
  • Individual student planning that assists all students, individually or in groups with developing academic, career and personal/social skills, goals and plans.
  • Provide preventative and responsive services to student needs.
  • Collaborate with parents/guardians, teachers, administrators and other educational resources.
  • Implement an effective referral and follow-up process.
  • Provide system support by collaborating with staff, assisting teachers, parents/guardians and other stakeholders in interpreting and understanding student data.
  • Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete record-keeping and providing student information to prospective colleges and employers, as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Crisis response – provide support and assistance to students and families as they navigate crisis and emergency situations.
  • Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) – support the collection and inputting of data for all tiers of PBIS.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Certification – M.A. degree in School Counseling and Michigan Teaching Certification with counseling (NT) endorsement or a School Social Worker License.
