POSITION:               School Success Mentor

JOB GOAL:              To provide support and coordinate intervention efforts for identified students and families to ensure that all students will be academically and behaviorally successful at school.

LOCATION:             Pine Avenue Elementary

REPORTS TO:         Nathan Aquilina, Principal



Degree/Certification: Candidate must possess a Bachelor Degree and/or advanced training or demonstrated skill and experience in the area of academic, behavioral or family intervention supports, social work or counseling.


Job Requirements, Knowledge and Skills:

A successful candidate will be able to:

  • Establish positive working relationships with students, staff and families to support academic and behavioral success at school
  • Assist students in making positive connections with school and developing healthy attitudes about school attendance and behavioral expectations
  • Work independently without supervision
  • Set, manage and coordinate multiple priorities
  • Prepare concise and accurate written communications and reports


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Effectively utilize our student discipline and behavioral systems to support at-risk student success
  • Effectively communicate with families regarding discipline issues involving identified at-risk students and assist in the development of behavioral supports
  • Develop and deliver direct instruction to students and families using research-based behavioral intervention strategies
  • Collaborate with families, SRC, teaching staff, and support staff to assist in the coordination of community behavioral supports for identified students and families
  • Oversee and utilize student attendance tracking to decrease the number of student absences from school.In addition, meet with families and teachers to develop attendance improvement plans for chronically truant students.
  • Oversee student grade tracking to decrease the number of chronically failing students.In addition, meet with families and teachers to develop academic improvement plans for chronically failing students.
  • Develop systems of tracking student attendance and discipline data to identify at-risk students and create intervention strategies to prevent behaviors that negatively impact school success
  • Other duties as assigned


WORK SCHEDULE:             M-F - All student attendance days.

COMPENSATION                 $20.00/hour

BEGINNING DATE:              Beginning of the 2019-20 school year
