Position Details: 

The AMA ESD Service Area Coordinator will provide coordination of special education instructional services to Alpena Public Schools and carry out other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • LEA ISD/State/Federal report and compliance function/Catamaran
  • Provide technical assistance to local programs/services for IEPs, MDRs, FBA, BIP, etc
  • Hold meetings for teachers (monthly with lead teachers prior to full staff meeting)
  • Attend local/AMA administrative meetings as needed or requested
  • Support behavior within MTSS process/PST, PBIS
  • Attend and support IEP/MDR other meetings as necessary
  • Collaborate in professional development 
  • Ensure high quality services and provision of FAPE for students with IEPs
  • Oversee consideration of placement in center programs
  • Strong collaboration with LEA administrative staff/SE secretary
  • Specially Designed Instruction 
  • Lead/facilitate/Support district with a complaint, advocacy, or mediation situation
  • Coordinate LEA medicaid billing training/technical assistance/staff pool lists for medicaid reimbursement
  • Alternative assessment coordinator and accommodations coordinator for MI ACCESS, etc.
  • Participate in School Improvement activities related to SE needs for the district.
  • Monitor caseloads and make recommendations for LEA special education staffing.  
  • Contribute/collaborate on LEA staff evaluation & performance
  • Attend local/regional/State level professional development
  • Support/Collaborate with any behavior classroom/program
  • Support home based process
  • Support IA needs determination, training

Must possess a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration, Education, Special Education or related field. Must have full or temporary state approval for Special Education Supervisor or Director of Special Education. Extensive knowledge of instructional practices and multi-tiered systems of support preferred.

Position is part time with potential for full time.
