Job Description

Position Opportunity:

Under the direction of the administrator, the classroom teacher is responsible for providing a developmental and instructional program for assigned students.  The Teacher, Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder will focus on development and implementation of student IEPs, planning and implementation of daily instructional activities, monitoring student progress and providing consultation to staff, paraprofessionals, agencies, parents and administrators. Qualifications:

  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate with special education endorsement in the area of Autism Spectrum Disorders or holds another special education endorsement and willing to obtain certification in the area of Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in programming for students with autism.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of curriculum and interventions to utilize with students who are autistic.
  • Ability to assess and accurately document student’s behavioral and instructional progress.
  • Self-directedness and initiative when given a variety of tasks and responsibilities.
  • Ability to make decisions and problem solve within a team of staff.
  • Ability to support, communicate with, and engage families as teaching partners.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with administrators, staff, agencies, students and families.

 

 

Working Conditions:

The Teacher, Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder will be housed in a school environment, which includes classroom, office and related work areas.  Instruction is provided within educational settings or the community as determined by an IEP.  This position will interface with LEA and IISD staff, community providers, parents, and agency personnel.
