Job Description


Position Opportunity:


Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor for Student Support Services, and in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the Ingham Intermediate School District, the School Social Worker is responsible for providing supportive services for eligible students enrolled in regular, vocational or special education programs.  The School Social Worker will focus on student evaluation, provision of direct and indirect services, and collaborative consultation with staff, parents, agency personnel and administrators.   • Approval by the State Department of Education as a school social worker.                                            
  • Master’s Degree in Social Work.
  • One year of experience in school social work practice in a school setting which can include master’s level social work internship.
  • Knowledge and theoretical content in treatment modes for school social work practice.
  • Demonstrated skills and successful experience in counseling/therapy with individuals, groups of students, and their families.
  • Knowledge of the requirements of state and federal mandates which directly affect school social work services and special education.
  • Ability to work and effectively communicate with administrators, staff, agencies, medical providers, students and their families.
  • Self-directedness and initiative when given a variety of responsibilities and assigned tasks.
  • Ability to make decisions and problem solve within a team of service providers.


Working Conditions:


  • The School Social Worker will be provided office space within educational settings.  This position requires daily travel, for which the staff member must provide transportation.  This position will interface with LEA and IISD staff, community providers, agency personnel, and families.
