Plans, organizes, and delivers an instructional program that has already been developed and aligned to state standards.  Feedback is provided by the instructor in an online environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. The instructor will be working in a part-time status and is required to provide academic support to approximately 70 students maximum for semester, 57 students maximum for trimester, 47 students maximum for summer in a variety of courses at varying levels of complexity, encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. This position requires daily work (Monday-Friday) with established office hours defined for students from multiple Michigan schools.  This position requires logging into class daily, response to students, mentors, parents or stakeholders within 24 hours, and scoring of student assignments within 72 hours of submission Monday through Friday. The successful candidate will be required to deliver instruction in specific content areas (ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, Electives, or World Language) using MVS course materials.  This position is based on a term-by-term appointment with no more than 19 hours per week.  Part-time instructors will be assigned to work from home but will also be required to attend a minimum of one professional development event throughout the year to include: Collaboration of the Minds (August). Other professional development events are optional.

1. Plans, prepares, and delivers instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences for all Michigan Virtual School students in certified content area(s)
2. Provide all needed contact information within the course instructors info including but not limited to MICHIGAN VIRTUAL  email and a phone number (recommend Google Voice number).
3. Sounding board for student, mentor, and parent issues
4. Provides professional/operational advice and feedback to instructors within their discipline, and across disciplines
5. Creates instructional supplemental materials for students
6. Maintains regular communications with other MICHIGAN VIRTUAL  staff, students, parents, and school personnel during daytime hours within 24 hours
7. Maintains a minimum of one (1) office hour a week between the hours of 7:00am and 5:00pm posted in course instructor info
8. Implements instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences 
9. Observes and evaluates student performance and development
10. Assigns and grades class work, homework, tests and assignments
11. Provides appropriate feedback on student work within 72 hours, or 96 hours for courses in English Language Arts, Advanced Placement, and select social studies courses
12. Encourages and monitors the progress of individual students
13. Maintains accurate and complete records of students' progress and development including grading/responding to online discussions, contacting students via e-mail or instant messaging on a regular basis
14. Posts course announcements to students a minimum of once a week throughout the term
15. Updates all necessary records accurately and completely as required by law and school regulations
16. Prepares required reports on student performance and activities at least two times per term
17. Submits final term scores within one (1) week of the end of the term
18. Models professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community
19. Prepares required reports on student performance and activities
20. Maintains professional expertise with developments in subject area, teaching resources and methods and makes relevant changes to instructional plans and activities
21. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned. All work responsibilities are subject to performance goals and/or targets established as part of the annual performance planning process or as the result of organizational planning.

*Bachelor’s degree and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
*Possess and maintains a valid Secondary Teaching Certificate in specific content area(s) with designation of Highly Qualified status.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (minimum requirements):

Minimum of three years of successful teaching at the middle or high school level.

*Master’s degree or higher preferred (Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Content Specific).
*Successful experience teaching online and/or in a blended learning environment preferred.
